Fans of Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers Saw Matt Hughes' Final Chase in an Episode Called Dedication That Aired Wednesday Night
Meteorologist and storm chaser Matt Hughes died May 26 2010 in Wichita Kansas at only 30-years-old.
The circumstances surrounding his death are still vague however, as some sources say he suffered a fatal injury at his home, while others report his death to be a failed suicide attempt.
According to a blog post on KAKE, author Aaron Blaser writes that Matt Hughes was taken to the hospital on May 12 after trying to take his life due to struggling from depression. He was reportedly in the hospital for several days in ICU but after only a few days it became clear that his family and friends were going to lose him.
Mr. Blaser writes that Matt was having trouble at home but he never told anyone about it. His funeral was attended by over 500 people and he leaves behind his wife Kendra and two sons Colin and Hunter.
Matt had been on Storm Chasers for years and was a favorite of many who watched the show.
According to the Wichita Eagle, his 15 years of storm chasing experience helped him land on the show in 2009.
He admitted to the newspaper last year that it took some time in the beginning to earn his team's trust, but he eventually became a perfect fit.
